Metal Shaping with Fay Butler Metal Shaping Videos with Fay Butler About 15 or 20 years ago I was visiting a friend in MA who told me about a “really good metalworker” he knew. Fresh from a 3 day course with Scott Knight I was eager to go meet this guy – but skeptical that he was in the same league as Scott. It turned out we were visiting Fay Butler. This was before he started doing his seminars. He stopped what he was doing and spent half a day with us, talking about how to shape metal, make patterns, run a power hammer and run a business. It was amazing, both the skill and knowledge that he had and the fact that he so freely shared it. I’ve since been to two of Fay’s seminars, and it was well worth the cost. It is expensive, but so valuable. I just found several videos of Fay Butler making a part, click on the links below to view the videos. Surface Development Patterns Fay Butler demonstrates how to create a surface development pattern for a wheel well made of cold rolled sheet metal. Laying Out The Blank After developing the pattern for the wheel well, Fay Butler demonstrates how to transfer it to the piece of sheet metal. The Reverse Curve Fay Butler talks about and demonstrates the Reverse Curve…how they are used, where they are used, how to create one. Shrinking With The Power Hammer Fay Butler demonstrates how to shrink a high crown part using a Yoder Power Hammer. Smoothing With The Power Hammer Fay Butler demonstrates how to smooth a piece of sheet metal using the Yoder Power Hammer.
